Glenside,PA (September 15, 2012) –One year removed from suffering a 4-0 loss at the hands of Misericordia University, the Arcadia University men's soccer team responded with a 2-1 victory over the visiting Cougars in front of a very large crowd on Saturday night at Easton Field. With the victory, the Knights improved to 3-1-2 on the year.

Since Arcadia's previous home game against SwarthmoreCollege on September 5 was suspended due to lightning, Saturday's game turned out to be the first official men's soccer contest on the newly-renovated Easton Field. The Knights did not disappoint their fans, who packed the stands from one end of the sideline to the other.

Locked in a scoreless tie, AU broke through first in the 43rd minute when sophomore John Pacana sent a beautiful pass to sophomore Alex Wells, who shot a bullet past Cougars goalkeeper Barry Fitzgerald. The goal by Wells was the first-ever scored in a men's soccer game on Easton Fieldand staked the Knights to a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Arcadia rode that momentum into the second half where sophomore Joe Bertucci settled a slick pass by Wells and found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead at the 48:18 mark. Just over four minutes later, Misericordia responded as sophomore Rob Wiacek scored to cut the lead in half. The Cougars continued to push forward looking for the equalizer, but Knights junior keeper Ryan Lantzy made two key saves late to secure the victory.

Following a tough early-season schedule that included six games in just over two weeks, the Knights will have a full week off before they return to the pitch to host King's College next Saturday. The game is slated to start at 7 p.m.
