Box Score Glenside, PA (September 25, 2012): The Knights surge past the visiting Aggies of Delaware Valley College with four second half goals to win 4-0. In another tail of two halves, the Arcadia University Women's Soccer team fought off a feisty, well-coached Delaware Valley team for the first half of tonight's match, only to turn up the pressure in the second half for 4 unanswered goals. The victory improves AU to 6-2-2 on the season as they get ready to begin conference play on Saturday (9/29) at Elizabethtown College (2 PM).
The first half was dominated by Arcadia as the Knights outshot the Aggies 8-0. The knights had strong midfield play in the first half by both Sophomore
Rachel Dolly and First Year
Bailey Novak. Nevertheless, the one-sided affair was not evident by the scoreboard as the game remained scoreless at half in part to Del-Val goalkeeper Julie Burnell, who registered six saves in the period.
The second half proved to be more than a handful for Del-Val as Arcadia turned up the attacking play, particularly from the midfield. This time midfielder Ana Stratton more than controlled the field of play by helping her teammates create shot after shot. The Knights' offense was relentless shooting sixteen shots and scoring four times. Sophomore striker
Kim Canfield provided the spark for AU out of the locker room as she scored two goals in a matter of minutes. The scoring began at the 49:30 mark as Canfield followed-up her own rebound off a breakaway by slipping the rebound past the senior keeper, Burnell.
The second goal would come approximately seven minutes later, as Junior
Rachel Dolly served in a beautiful corner for
Kim Canfield to finish home for her second goal in less than ten minutes. The scoring continued not long after as Junior Sara-Volk Perez placed a perfect pass to the feet of Junior
Fatima Elmedkhar from the baseline for the third goal of the half. The fourth and final goal of the knight came off a pass from first year,
Caitlin Liscinski to Sophomore, Ana Stratton who turned and ripped the ball across the keeper to the back of the net.
The win went to AU goalie
Veronica Willig but the shutout was a combined effort by Williq and senior goalkeeper
Meghan Cronin.
Next up for women's soccer is Commonwealth conference rival, Elizabethtown College this upcoming Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 2PM.
