Men's Basketball Has Winning Streak Ended at Alvernia

Box Score Reading, PA (January 16, 20113) - A three-pointer with 23-seconds to play gave the Alvernia University Crusaders a five point lead and ended the Arcadia University Knights four game winning streak in a 72-65 decision. The Knights trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half, got to within two in the final minute, but could not complete the comeback. Joe Brown scored 17 points to lead Arcadia.

The game was back and forth early on with neither team being able to take a big lead. Arcadia led 12-11, but Alvernia then went on a 6-0 run to take a 17-12 lead at 11:35. The Knights then scored five straight to tie the game at 17. The game was also tied at 19, but Alvernia hit a three to go up 22-19 and maintained the lead for the rest of the half. The Crusaders took a 36-29 lead into the break.

Brown scored nine points to lead Arcadia in the first half, while Brian Parker scored 13 to lead Alvernia.

Arcadia quickly cut into the lead and trailed 38-34 under a minute into the half. Alvernia then scored the next six points to take 44-34 lead at the 17:02 mark. The Knights scored the next eight points to cut the deficit to two points at 44-42 with 14:23 to play. The Crusaders then went on a 12-4 run to go back up by 10 points, 56-46 at the 8:25 mark.

Alvernia then went up by 12 points at 60-48 with 7:14 to play. The Knights used an 11-3 run to get back to within four points at 63-49 with 3:01 to play and then trailed 65-61 at the 1:43 mark. The Knights then cut the lead to two points at 65-63, but a three-pointer by the Crusaders as the shot clock was expiring and with just 23-seconds left to play put Alvernia back up by five points at 68-63. Arcadia failed to scored on the next possession and the Crusaders hit a pair of free throws for a seven point lead and the eventual win.

Brown was 7-13 from the field with eight rebounds. Khalief Trawick added 10 points for Arcadia. Kahlil Bennett scored 19 points to lead Alvernia.

Arcadia will return home on Saturday when host Stevenson for a 3pm tip-off.
