Brown Scores 22, Including Go Ahead Basket in Final Minutes to Lead Men's Basktball to Victory

Box Score Glenside, PA (January 19, 2013) - Joe Brown scored 22 points, including a jumper with 1:09 to play to put the Arcadia University Knights (11-6, 6-4 MCOM) up for good in a 77-75 win over the Stevenson University Mustangs (9-7, 3-7). Brown gave the Knights a 73-71 lead and then hit a free throw 30-seconds later to put the Knights up by three. Brown and Aaron Lee-Webb then went 3-4 from the line in the final 14-seconds to preserve the victory.

The game was tied at 6-6 early on, but a 5-0 run by Stevenson gave them an 11-6 lead. The Mustangs were then up 22-15, but a 7-0 run by Arcadia tied the game at 22 with 6:01 to play. Stevenson then used a 14-2 run to take a 36-24 lead at the 2:04 mark. The Knights ended the half on a 5-1 run and went into the break trailing 37-29.

Brown had 14 points in the first half to lead Arcadia. Tyrus Costly scored 10 to lead Stevenson. Arcadia shot 50% from the field, while Stevenson shot 48%. The Knights had a slim rebounding advantage 17-16, but committed 16 turnovers. The Mustangs made 11 miscues.

Arcadia cut the deficit to three quickly at 43-40, but Stevenson went back up 50-42 at the 13:51 mark. The Knights then scored eight straight to tie the game at 50 at 11:48. Stevenson was ahead 56-54, but John Landro then hit a triple to give Arcadia their first lead since early in the contest 57-56 at the 7:38 mark.

The Mustangs were then ahead 57-56, but a Brown three-pointer put the Knights ahead 60-59 at the 7:03 mark. Arcadia was ahead 61-59, but the Mustangs then scored five straight to take a 64-61 lead. The Knights responded with four straight to go back up 65-64. The game was then tied at 67 and 71 with 1:27 to play.

Brown then hit a floater from the right block with 1:09 to play to put the Knights up for good, 73-71. He hit a free-throw at :36-seconds to extend the advantage to three points at 74-71. Stevenson scored on their next possession to make it 74-73, but Webb hit a pair of free throws and then Brown went 1-2 to ice the game.

Brown was 9-12 from the field and had 10 rebounds and two steals. Travis Saltus added 17 points, while Webb and Khalief Trawick each scored 11. Christian Roberts scored 19 to plead Stevenson. The Knights shot 50% from the field and the Mustangs scored 45.9%. Arcadia controlled the board 42-33 and committed just six turnovers in the second half.

The Knights return to action on Wednesday when they travel to face Alvernia for a 8pm tip-off.
