Box Score Glenside, PA (January 5, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (6-5, 3-3 MCOM) let a 12-point second half lead slip away and fell to the Hood College Blazers (8-4, 2-3 MCOM), 75-72. The Knights led 41-29 and then trailed by as many as six late. Arcadia briefly took the lead back in the final two minutes, but Hood went 6-6 from the line and got a big three pointer to earn the victory.
Joe Brown recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Arcadia.
The game saw five ties in the first nine minutes and the score was 13-13 at the 11:10 mark. Arcadia then went on a 10-2 run to take a 23-15 lead with 7:25 to play in the first half. The Knights led 25-20 at the 2:37 mark and ended the half on a 8-3 run, including a three-pointer by Brown at the buzzer to make the score 33-23 Arcadia at the break.
Brown and Hood's Cameron Cook each had 12 points to lead their teams in the first half. The Knights shot 50% from the field and held the Blazers to just 25%. Each team grabbed 20 rebounds in the opening frame, while Arcadia committed eight turnovers and forced six.
The Knights quickly expanded their lead to start the second half and a three-pointer by
John Landro made the score 41-29 at the 16:52 mark. The tide then turned as Hood went on a 22-4 run that gave the Blazers a 51-45 lead with 11:23 to play. Arcadia got to within one point three times and finally tied the game at 63 with 3:36 to play.
The Knights then took the lead back, 66-63 on a three-point play by Travis Saltus at the 2:30 mark. The Blazers tied the game on their own three-point play, but Arcadia responded with a Brown lay-up for 68-66 lead with 1:55 to go. Matt Galloway then hit a three-pointer to put Hood up one and they would not trail again. Arcadia tied the game 69-69, but the Blazers went 6-6 from line down stretch to pick up the victory.
Brown was 9-12 from the field with four assists, three blocks and two steals. Saltus added 11 points, while
Khalief Trawick had 12 points and three rebounds. Cook ended with 24 points to lead three double-digit scorers for the Blazers. The Knights shot 54.9% from the field and Hood shot 41.8%. Hood controlled the boards, 39-29 and forced 11 turnovers, while committing 10.
Arcadia will have a short turnaround as they travel to face DeSales on Monday night for a 7pm tip-off.
