Women's Basketball Has Win Streak Snapped at Elizabethtown

Box Score Elizabethtown, PA (January 9, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (8-6, 1-6 MCOM) dropped an 80-74 decision to the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (5-7, 3-4) tonight. They had their four winning streak snapped in a contest that featured 13 ties and 12 lead changes. The Knights led with less than nine minutes to play, but the Blue Jays then went on a 12-5 run to open up a seven-point lead and never looked back. Morgan Wensley led Arcadia with 20 points.

Both teams traded basket early and Arcadia had a 9-6 lead at the 16:27 mark. E-town then used a 7-0 run to take 13-9 advantage with 14:29 to play. The game was then tied at 15 when the Knights went on an 8-3 run to take the lead back at 23-18 at 8:05. The game was then tied at 27 with 5:59 to play and 37 with 1:18 to play. Arcadia scored four of the final five points of the half to take 41-38 lead into the break.

Wensley had 10 points to lead Arcadia in the first half. Taylor Alwine scored nine for E-town. The Knights shot 55% from the field and held the Blue Jays to 41%. Arcadia controlled the glass 24-14, but committed 11 turnovers, while forcing five.     

E-town came out of the break and quickly cut into the lead and eventually tied the game 48 with 15:45 to play. The game then tied at 57 and 59 . Arcadia took a 60-59 lead at the 9:12 mark, but the Blue Jays then used a 12-5 run to take a 71-64 lead with 5:05 to play. The Knights did get to within four in the final minute, but E-town was able to hold off the Knights.

Wensley was 8-15 from the field, including 4-10 from beyond the arc. Dominique Hassinger added 15 points and seven rebounds and six assists. Sam Caligiuri scored 14 points, while Valerie DiMuro recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor Kreider scored 25 points to lead Elizabethtown. The Knights out shot the Blue Jays 46%-42% and won the rebounding battle 45-38. The Knights turned the ball over 22 times and forced just 13.

Arcadia will return home on Saturday to host #5 Messiah at 1pm in Alumni Gym.
