Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team recorded a 2-0 MAC Commonwealth victory over visiting Lebanon Valley College Wednesday night, and in doing so clinched a berth in the 2013 MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament.
The Knights improved to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play with the win, and can clinch the third-seed in the conference tournament with either a win over Albright College October 29, or a Lebanon Valley loss to either Alvernia University or Elizabethtown College. The Flying Dutchmen fell to 8-8 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The match was scoreless until the 45th-minutre when senior back
Ashley Ditchey (Nicholson, Pa.) fired a shot the deflected off the stick of senior goalkeeper Chloe Baro (Douglasville, Pa.) and into the cage for her first goal of the season. The Knights then got an insurance goal in the 52nd-minute when sophomore forward
Rachel Longenecker (Annandale, N.J.) scored on a shot from the right of the cage off a feed from senior forward
Hannah Christensen (Harrisburg, Pa.) for the 2-0 final.
Arcadia dominated play the entire match, out shooting the Flying Dutchmen 17-6 in the contest and holding an 11-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Freshman goalkeeper
Brittany Hodson (Highesville, Md.) needed to make just two saves to record her fourth shutout of the season and improve to 11-5 for the season for the Knights. Baro fell to 8-8 after making eight stops for Lebanon Valley.
Arcadia will return to action Saturday when it hosts a non-conference contest against William Patterson University at 1 p.m. at Easton Field.
