Women’s Soccer Battles Alvernia to 1-1 Draw

Box Score READING, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's soccer team outshot host Alvernia University 24-4 but had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw Wednesday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth contest.
 
The Knights, who are receiving votes in the current D3Soccer.com poll and are ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, moved to 10-1-5 overall and 3-0-3 in MAC Commonwealth matches, while the Crusaders moved to 9-6-2 overall and 1-5-2 in conference play.
 
Alvernia staked itself to an early 1-0 lead when senior midfielder Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa.) put a ball into the lower left corner off a feed from freshman midfielder Bri McGrath (Sicklerville, N.J.) 15:38 into the match for her sixth goal of the year.
 
The score remained that way until the 64th-minute when freshman midfielder Karis Poore (Reading, Pa.) answered for Arcadia with her fourth goal of the season. Senior Fatima Elmedkhar (Middletown, Del.) sent the ball to Poore after a pass from junior forward Kim Canfield (Hillsborugh, N.J.) started the play.
 
The Knights poured on the pressure in the second half, owning a 15-1 lead in shots for the frame, but were unable to pull ahead and the game went to overtime Arcadia took all three shots in the first overtime period, while the Crusaders had the lone shot in the second.
 
Senior keeper Colleen Maher (Wall, N.J.) stopped 11 shots in goal for Alvernia to keep the Crusaders in the match. Senior keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, N.J.) faced just one shot on goal the entire match for the Knights.
 
Arcadia will be back in action Saturday when it hosts a 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match against Lycoming College at Easton Field.
