Men’s Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision at No. 1/3 Messiah

Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 MAC Commonwealth match at Messiah College Wednesday night, which is ranked No. 1 in the D3Soccer.com poll and is ranked No. 3 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

The Falcons improved to 17-1-0 overall and 8-0-0 in conference play with the win. The loss dropped the Knights to 6-10-2 overall and 2-5-1 in conference play.

Messiah took all 13 shots in the first half and got on the board in the 31st-minute sophomore Ryan Lago's (Ewing, N.J.) second goal of the season. The score was extended to 2-0 in favor of the Falcons in the 52nd-minute when senior Sheldon Myer (Manheim, Pa.) carried the ball into the box and put home his second tally of the year, and junior Jeremy Payne (Middleburg. Pa.) capped the scoring in the 85th minute with his 13th goal of the year.

The Knights broke up Messiah's bid for a shutout when they were awarded a penalty kick after the Falcons were called for a foul in the box in the 79th-minute. Junior Alex Wells (Hockessia, N.J.) stepped up to take the shot and cashed in for his six goal of the season.

Junior Brandon West (East Hampton, N.Y.) earned the decision in goal for Messiah, improving his record to 17-1-0. Senior Ryan Lantzy (Phoenixville, Pa.) had seven saves while falling to 6-9-2 for Arcadia.

Despite the loss Arcadia is still alive for a berth in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament with a win at Lebanon Valley Saturday afternoon. Arcadia does need some help though, with multiple combinations that could lead to a playoff berth.
