Box Score FREDERICK, Md. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 double-overtime MAC Commonwealth contest at Hood College Saturday afternoon. It was the conference-opener for both teams. The Blazers improved to 4-5-1 overall with the win, while the Knights felt o 4-6-1.
Freshman midfielder Nicholas Chalk (Frederick, Md.) gave Hood its first lead of the game when he headed in a volley off a free kick from freshman forward Joseph Benton (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) with 8:39 left in the first half. The score remained that way until the 70th-minute when sophomore back
Joseph Bertucci (Giblosboro, N.J.) rang a shot off the post and into the net to knot the score at 1-1
The match eventually went into a second overtime period and senior midfielder Eric Diehl (Gaithersburg, Md.) gave the Blazers the win 2:57 into the period as his shot went off the post and into the net.
Hood held a 25-20 advantage in shots, while shots on goal were even at seven apiece. The Blazers also had a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks in the match.
Junior keeper Ryan Deuber (Timonium, Md.) tallied six saves while improving his record to 3-3-0. Sophomore keeper
Seth Shoap (Landenberg, Pa.) had five saves in taking the loss. It was his first decision of the season.
Arcadia will return to action Tuesday when it hosts a 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match against Albright College at Easton Field.
