No. 5 Arcadia Falls at No. 4 Kean in ECAC Field Hockey Quarterfinal, 3-2

Box Score UNION, N.J. – The fifth-seeded Arcadia University field hockey team dropped a 3-2 ECAC Division III Mid-Atlantic Championship Quarterfinal match at fourth-seeded Kean University Wednesday night.

The Cougars improved to 15-4 with the win and advance to Saturday's semifinal round against eighth-seeded Alvernia University, which pulled out a 4-3 upset of top-seeded Drew University in overtime. The Knights season ends at 14-7.

Senior forward Stephanie Soares (Dover, Del.) scored a pair of goals to lead Kean to the win. Her first goal of the game gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead in 17:19 into the contest and she scored the game-winner with 12:36 remaining in the second half. Soares also setup the first goal of the game, setting up senior midfielder Korri Thompson (Somerville, N.J.) 9:25 into the match.

Arcadia called a timeout immediately after going down 2-0 and rallied to tie the score at 2-2 by the end of the half. Junior forward Molly Goldstein (Oak Ridge, N.J.) banged in a rebound off a penalty corner in the 22nd-minute and freshman forward Lauren Ransegnola (Oak Ridge, N.J.) tied the game on a penalty stroke after time expired in the opening frame. The Knights had a series of penalty corners and were awarded the stroke after the ball hit a Kean defender on its way into the cage.

Sophomore goalkeeper Katie DiCarlo (Shamong, N.J.) registered five saves as she improved to 15-4 for the Cougars. Freshman goalkeeper Lucy Pollock (Helen's Bay, Northern Ireland) took the loss for Arcadia after allowing one goal with two saves after relieving fellow freshman goalkeeper Brittany Hodson (Highesville, Md) in the 18th-miunte. It was the first decision in goal for Pollock this season.

The Knights had several quality scoring chances in the second half, which saw them awarded six of the seven total penalty corners in the period, but Arcadia was unable to get the ball past DiCarlo.

Arcadia outshot Kean 14-9 in the match and 6-2 in the second half, and held an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners.
