No. 7 Women’s Soccer Upsets No. 2 McDaniel in ECAC Quarterfinals, 3-1

Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – Junior forward Kim Canfield scored one goal and assisted on another to lead the seventh-seeded Arcadia University women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory at second-seeded McDaniel College in the quarterfinal round of the ECAC Division III South Championship Tournament, marking the first-ever ECAC tournament win for the Knights in any sport.

Arcadia (12-4-5) advanced to face sixth-seeded Swarthmore College in the semifinal round Saturday at 7 p.m. after the Garnet pulled out a 3-2 win at third-seeded Lebanon Valley College. Top-seeded Stevenson University defeated eighth-seeded Alvernia University 1-0 and will host both the semifinal and championships rounds. The Mustangs will face fourth-seeded Grove City College, which won a 6-0 decision over fifth-seeded Juniata College, at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Knights dominated the first half, outshooting the Green Terror (13-6-1) 12-1 in the frame. Arcadia took the lead for good in the match as senior forward Sara Volk-Perez (Mays Landing, N.J.) scored her first goal of the season off Canfield's centering pass just off the right end line 15:43 into the match. Sophomore back/forward Melia Ochsner (Phoenix, Ariz.) scored what proved to be the game-winner with 7:33 left in the opening frame when she put home senior midfielder Rachel Dolley's (Quakertown, Pa.) corner kick for her first tally of the year.

The second half of play was the exact opposite of the first as McDaniel came out firing and took the first nine shots of the frame. That pressure paid off in the 75th-minute when freshman midfielder Christina Wroblewski (Glen Mills, Pa.) put the ball top-shelf off a restart. The unassisted goal was her fourth of the year.

Things finally settled down for the Knights when Canfield found the back of the net for her 15th goal of the season with 8:43 remaining in the match, taking a lead Pass from Dolley and chipped it into an open net from 25 yards out. Canfield nearly added another goal two and a half minutes later as she rang a shot off the crossbar.

Senior keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, N.J.) recorded four saves to earn the decision in net for Arcadia, improving her record to 10-4-5 this season. Freshman Haley Jacobs (Forest Hill, Md.) recorded five saves as her record fell to 13-6-1 with the loss for the Green Terror.

The Knights held a 15-10 advantage in shots for the match with an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams had three corner kicks in the contest.
