Women’s Soccer Advances to ECAC South Final with 1-0 win at Swarthmore

Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Freshman midfielder Lennon Kramer (Nazareth, Pa.) scored the lone goal of the game in the 56th-minute to give the seventh-seeded Arcadia University women's soccer team a 1-0 victory at sixth-seeded Swarthmore College Saturday in the semifinal round of the ECAC Division III South Championship Tournament.
 
The Knights improved to 13-4-5 with the win and will face the winner of the other semifinal between top-seeded Stevenson University and fourth-seeded Grove City College Sunday at 1 p.m. at Stevenson. Arcadia will be playing for its first-ever ECAC championship in any sport.
 
The last title for the Knights' women's soccer program was winning the 2005 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championship. Arcadia's last team title in any sport was the men's soccer team's 2006 PAC title.
 
The Knights controlled the ball for most of the first half and generated some quality scoring chances while limiting Swarthmore in the defensive end, but was unable to get on the board and the two teams were deadlocked at the break 0-0.
 
The Garnet (10-6-2) got out to a quick start it the second half, generating a several quality chances but were unable to capitalize. The Knights were forced to make a team save on a bid from senior midfielder McCleary Philbin (Sherborn, Mass.) 1:10 into the second half and freshman midfielder Caroline Khanna (Chevy Chase, Md.) rang a shot off the crossbar 4:41 in. That opening flurry ended with a shot from senior midfielder Amber Famiglietti (St. Petersburg, Fla.) that was punched away by Arcadia senior keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, N.J.) 7:54 into the frame.
 
The Knights went back on the attack after that and cashed in as sophomore keeper Reba Magier (Saugus, Calif.) came out of the net to challenge an odd-man break for Arcadia and Kramer took advantage as she launched a top-shelf shot from outside the top of the box into a wide open net for her team-leading 17th goal of the year 10:34 into the second half.
 
Swarthmore battled to try and draw even after that, but Arcadia's defense held and the Knights controlled the ball in the offensive end in the closing minutes to secure the victory.
 
Law was credited with two saves as she improved her record to 11-4-5 for the season. Magier had three stops as her record fell to 7-7-2.
 
Swarthmore held a 10-8 advantage in shots for the match and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
