Women’s Soccer Clinches Playoff Berth Despite 2-1 Loss at Lebanon Valley

Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at Lebanon Valley College in the final regular season match of the season for both teams. Despite the loss, the Knights clinched a berth in the MAC Commonwealth Conference Championship Tournament with Widener University's loss to Elizabethtown College.

Arcadia is now 11-3-5 overall and 4-2-3 in conference play, and will be seeded fifth in the conference tournament. The Knights will return to Lebanon Valley to face the fourth-seeded Dutchmen, who improved to 10-7-2 overall and 5-4-0 in conference play with today's win.

The rematch between the two teams will take place Tuesday, November 5. The official start time will be announced when available.

Arcadia got off to a good start and staked itself to a 1-0 lead on senior forward Fatima Elmedkhar's (Middletown, Del.) sixth goal of the season in the 21st-minute. Lebanon Valley turned the ball over in its defensive ends and Elmedkhar took advantage as she placed the ball into the lower left corner of the net.

That lead lasted until the 57th-minute when senior forward/midfielder Jess Kleeschulte (Vernon, N.J.) put home a rebound off a shot from freshman forward/midfielder Sammy Bost (Eldersburg, Md.) that was blocked in front of senior keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, N.J.), tying the game at 1-1 with her third goal of the season.

The two teams exchanged scoring chances the rest of the second half, but neither team was able to find to find the back of the net and the match went to overtime. Junior midfielder Nina Barbieri (Hillsborough, N.J.) had one last chance for the Knights in the closing minute of the period, but senior keeper Becca Sykes (Cape May Court House, N.J.) was there with the save for the Dutchmen with 20 seconds left on the clock.

The extra period didn't last long as senior back Allison Korns (Lancaster, Pa.) sent junior midfielder Amanda Douglass (Robbinsville, N.J.) in on a breakaway and she chipped a shot over Law for the game-winner 40 seconds into the extra period. It was her fifth goal of the season.

Sykes finished the match with eight saves to earn the decision in goal for Lebanon Valley, while Law had five stops in taking the loss for Arcadia.

The Knights took all five shots in the first half before being outshot 15-7 in the second half. The Dutchmen had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
