Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. – The third-seeded Arcadia University field hockey team dropped a 4-1 Commonwealth Conference semifinal match at second-seeded and 15th-ranked Messiah College Wednesday night.
The Falcons improved to 14-5 for the season and will travel to top-seeded Elizabethtown College Saturday to battle for the Commonwealth Conference title. The Knights fell to 14-6 overall and will await the announcement of the ECAC tournament field Monday.
Senior Brooke Sands (Lancaster, Pa.) put Messiah in the lead for good when she scored on the first of three penalty strokes for the Falcons in the game 11:48 into the contest. Junior Becky Ely (Newtown, Pa.) also scored on a stroke in the 54th-minute for the 4-1 final.
Junior Celina Nissley (Middletown, Pa.) opened the second half scoring with her ninth goal of the year 3:24 into the frame when scored off a penalty corner, but Arcadia quickly got back into the match when junior
Molly Goldstein (Oak Ridge, N.J.) tipped in a shot from the top of the circle off the stick of
Taylor Dalisera to cut the deficit in half. Freshman Moriah Pfautz (Ephrata, Pa.) answered with her 21st tally of the year four minutes later as Messiah regained its two-goal advantage.
Molly Grebrowsky () totaled three saves to earn the decision in goal for the Falcons, while freshman
Brittany Hodson (Highesville, Md.) had 10 stops in taking the loss for the Knights.
Messiah outshot Arcadia 30-8 in the match and had an 11-7 advantage on penalty corners.
