Glenside, PA (February 13, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (14-10, 9-8 MCOM) will enter the final day of the regular season with an opportunity to control their own destiny and head to the MAC Commonwealth Playoffs for the first time. A win at Widener for the Knights and they will head to the postseason for the first time since the 2005-06 season. Arcadia will tip-off against the Pride at 3pm on Saturday in Chester.
"We control our own destiny at this point which is the best situation to be in," said Arcadia Men's Basketball Head Coach
Justin Scott. "We have two days to prepare for Widener and we are looking forward to the opportunity to play in the postseason."
There is still a lot to be decided in the Commonwealth with five teams within one game of each other fighting for three spots. Lycoming, the Knights, Messiah, Stevenson and Hood all have a chance to either make the postseason or be eliminated after Saturday's action.
Already decided is that Alvernia will be the top seed and Albright will finish second. The #4 and #5 seeds will meet on Monday, February 18th in a first round game at the higher seed. The #3 seed will travel to face Albright and the winner of the 4/5 game will travel to face Alvernia on Wednesday, February 20th. The Championship Game will take at the highest remaining seed on Saturday.
The men's basketball team has made eight postseason appearances since becoming an NCAA program prior to the 1993-94 season. They made seven straight appearances from 1994-2000 and then didn't make the playoffs again until 2006. The have never advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
