Softball Sweeps Doubleheader From Wesley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Glenside, Pa (April 16, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (15-14) got to above the .500 mark for the first time this season today after sweeping the Wesley College Wolverines (12-18), 7-6 and 10-6. The Knights came from behind in both games, overcoming a three run deficit in game one and a one run deficit in game two. Brandee Zablotsky was the game one star, going 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. In game two, Samantha Chalupa went 3-3 with a pair of runs scored.

In game one, Wesley jumped out to a 3-0 lead scoring one in the first and two in the second. Then in the bottom of the fourth, the Knights got on the board scoring four times. Zablotsky hit an RBI single, Alexandra Schafer scored on a wild pitch, Nicole Larro scored when Jessica Wood was hit by a pitch and Zablotsky scored when Leanda Helms reached on an error.

The Knights added three more in the fifth as Schafer hit an RBI single, Zablotsky hit an RBI double and Wood hit an RBI single for a 7-3 Arcadia lead. Wesley scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh, but the Knights held on for the 7-6 victory.

Larro went 2-2 with two runs scored. Sara Gunia got the win in relief, pitching two innings and alloying just one hit.

Wesley started game with a run in the first, but in the bottom of the first Arcadia took the lead as Marissa Perez scored on an error and Helms hit a sac fly for a 2-1 advantage. The Wolverines then tied the score with a run in the top of the second. Wesley scored another in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Arcadia took the lead back, 4-3 in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Wood.

The Knights added two more in the fourth as Alicia McMahon scored on a wild pitch and Sara Boyadjis scored on an error for a 6-3 lead. Then in the fifth, Arcadia added two more as McMahon hit an RBI single and Boyadjis hit an RBI double to give the Knights an 8-3 advantage. Schafer hit a two run single in the sixth to make the score 10-3. Wesley scored three in the seventh to make the final 10-6.

Wood was 3-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Perez was 2-4 with two runs scored and Zablotsky was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. McMahon also had two hits, scored a run and knocked in a run.

Arcadia will return to action on Thursday afternoon when they travel to face Eastern for a non-conference doubleheader.
