Box Score Purchase, NY (April 17, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights (5-7, 1-3 MFRE) won their first conference match in program history tonight, defeating the Manhattanville College Valiants (0-13, 0-3), 10-6. The Knights jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead and never trailed in the match. Manhattanville did cut the deficit to three late, but the Knights held off the Valiants for the win.
Ryan Griffo scored three times to lead Arcadia.
Chris Baines gave Arcadia an early lead with a goal from
Chris Jacovino at 13:38.
James Galassi made it 2-0 Knights at 10:51. Then less then a minute later Jacovino scored from Napolitano for a 3-0 lead. Manhattanville scored in the final seconds of the first quarter to make it 3-1 after one.
Austin Morris gave Arcadia their three goal lead back, scoring at 4:13 of the second quarter. The Valiants scored at 1:43 to make the halftime score 4-2 Arcadia.
Ryan Griffo scored just 40-seconds into the third quarter to give the Knights a 5-2 lead. Griffo then scored again at 5:35 to make it 6-2. Jacovino made it 7-2, scoring a man-up goal from Griffo at 2:23 of the third, The Knights took the five goal lead into the fourth quarter. Griffo scored his third, a man-up goal from Jacovino at 13:28 of the fourth to extend the lead to 8-2.
Robert Palumbo then got on the board as he scored a man-up goal at 11:24 from Jacovino for a 9-2 advantage. The Valiants then scored four straight goals to make it 9-6, but Morris scored from Fox at 1:34 to make the final 10-6.
Morris and Jacovino each scored twice and Jacovino also had three assists.
Cory Sonderschafer got the win in goal, making 11 saves.
Arcadia will play they final non-conference match of the season on Saturday as they travel to face Centenary.
