Men's Tennis Team Edges Penn State Abington in Season-Opener, 5-4

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's tennis team opened the 2013-14 season with a 5-4 non-conference victory over visiting Penn State Abington Saturday at Weiss Courts.  Freshman Charles Poklikuha (West Creek, Pa.) secured the win for the Knights with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win over Sam Borai () at sixth singles.
 
Arcadia opened the day by winning two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Alexander Colton (Lafayatte Hill, Pa.) and freshman Wesley Wei (Monroe Township, N.J.) recorded an 8-0 win at first-doubles against junior James Howell (Abington, Pa.) and freshman Mike Herman (Philadelphia, Pa.), while sophomore Darren Stochmal (Millville, N.J.) and Poklikuha were 8-1 winners at third-doubles against junior Kevin Wilkinson (Brooklyn. N.Y.) and sophomore Monte Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa.).
 
Stochmal earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles against Dunson, while senior Marc Ruggia (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) recorded a 6-2, 6-4 fifth-singles win over Wilkinson.
 
The Knights will next travel to Lebanon Valley College next Saturday, September 21, for a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
