Eastern Rallies for 2-1 Overtime Win over Field Hockey

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime decision to visiting Eastern University Tuesday night at Easton Field, dropping its record to 5-3 for the season. The Eagles, who were coming off a victory over then No. 18 Rowan University Saturday, evened their record at 4-4 with the win.

The match was scoreless until the closing minute of the first half when sophomore forward Rachel Longenecker (Ocean City, N.J.) tipped home a crossing pass from junior forward Molly Goldstein (Oak Ridge, N.J.) with 33 seconds remaining in the opening frame, giving Arcadia a 1-0 lead.

The scored remained 1-0 in favor of the Knights until Eastern was awarded a penalty corner in 60th-minute and sophomore back Megan Bolton (Souderton, Pa.) cashed in as she fired home a shot from the top left of the circle off an entry feed from sophomore midfielder Danielle Frasca (Runnemede, N.J.) to tie the match. Regulation was not enough to decide the contest and Bolton scored on a penalty stroke 1:25 into overtime after her initial shot hit and Arcadia player's body in an attempt to make a defensive save.

The Knights appeared to have scored a go-ahead goal with 3:43 left in regulation, but the shot was deemed dangerous and the goal was disallowed.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer O'Neill (Erial, Pa.) registered four saves in the cage for the Eagle, improving her record to 3-0, while freshman goalkeeper Brittany Hodson (Hughesville, Md.) had eight saves while her record fell to 5-3 for the Knights.

Eastern outshot Arcadia 16-10 in the match, including a 9-5 margin in the first half, while Arcadia had a 12-10 advantage in penalty corners.

The Knights will return to action Saturday with they travel to Elizabethtown for their first MAC Commonwealth match of the season at 1 p.m.
