Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 non-conference contest to Swarthmore College Wednesday night at Easton Field after allowing three unanswered goals after jumping out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.
The Garnet, who are receiving votes in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coaches' Poll, improved to 2-0-1 for the season, while the Knights fell to 0-1-1.
Arcadia was outstanding in the defensive end to start that the game and managed to turn defense into offense when junior midfielder
Alex Wells (Hockessin, Del.) ripped a shot from the top of the box into the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead 17:18 into the game. That lead held until the 31st-minute when sophomore forward Devon Baughen (Sarasota, Fla.) put home a ball that was double-deflected to tie the score at 1-all.
The Garnet took the lead for good in the 74th-minute on sophomore midfielder Wyatt McCall's (Danville, Calif.) one-timer off a cross from senior forward McWelling Todman (Glenside, Pa.), and senior forward Joe Keedy (Petosky, Mich.) tapped in a rebound in the 81st-minute off a shot from Michael Stewart that rang off the right post for the 3-1 final.
Senior goalkeeper Peter Maxted (Port Washington, N.Y.) needed to make just three saves to improve his record to 2-0-1 in net for Swarthmore. Fellow senior keeper
Ryan Lantzy (Phoenixville, Pa.) fell to 0-1-1 in goal for Arcadia after putting in a 10-save effort.
The Garnet controlled play for most of the game, outshooting the Knights 28-9 in the match and holding a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Arcadia will look to bounce back from its first loss of the season Saturday when the Knights take on Cairn University in the first game the Cailella Soccer Classic at Rutgers-Camden.
