Alex Wells scored in the 98th minute to give the Arcadia University men's soccer team a hard-fought 1-0 win over Alvernia University on a rainy Wednesday night at Easton Field.
Wells' goal came after a failed Crusaders' clear, and he put a shot on net that Alvernia freshman goalkeeper Zach Rider could only get a piece of as it went off the right post and in. The goal was Wells' fourth of the year.
The Knights improved to 7-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Commonwealth Conference with the win. The Crusaders fell to 8-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Commonwealth Conference with the loss.
Arcadia freshman goalkeeper
Chris Watson earned the win in his first collegiate start, making eight saves to earn the first win and shutout of his career. Rider made nine saves and falls to 8-6-2 with the loss for Alvernia.
The Knights held a 15-14 advantage in shots, while the Crusaders had a 10-7 advantage in corner kicks.
Arcadia returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Lebanon Valley College for a 4 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match at Easton Field.
