Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Haberbosh’s tally gives women’s soccer 1-0 win at Albright, Arcadia seeded fourth in conference tournament

READING, Pa. – Freshman forward Kayla Haberbosch scored her third goal of the season in the 61st minute to give the Arcadia University women's soccer team a 1-0 Commonwealth Conference victory at Albright College Wednesday night.

The Knights (14-4, 5-2 CC) are assured the No. 4 seed in next week's Commonwealth Conference Championship Tournament, and will host a first round match Monday, November 3, at Easton Field. The official start time has yet to be determined.

Arcadia will face either Albright (7-10-1, 3-5-0 CC) or Widener Monday. The Pride control their own destiny heading into Saturday's final regular season match at Lycoming. Widener gets in with a win over the Warriors, while a loss or tie would keep the Lions in the No. 5 spot.

The Knights took control of this game from the start, but were unable to get on the board in the first half after outshooting Albright 7-2 in the frame. Senior midfielder Kim Canfield nearly gave Arcadia the lead just 4:42 into the contest, but the ball was stopped by a Lions defender on the goal line for the first of two team saves recorded by Albright in the match.

Arcadia continued to apply pressure in the second half and just missed putting the ball in off a corner kick eight minutes into the period. Haberbosh's initial shot was stopped by Lions' junior keeper Jaymee Stepp and the rebound bounced right back to Haberbosch, who put the ball off an Albright defender for a team save.

The Knights finally broke through 15 minutes into the second half as Haberbosch broke through the Lions defense on a breakaway and beak Stepp one-on-one for the only goal of the game.

Shots were 11-1 in favor of Arcadia in the second half, giving the Knights an 18-3 advantage for the game. Arcadia also had five of the six corner kicks in the match.

Senior keeper Veronica Willig picked up the shutout victory without facing a shot on goal in 90 minutes, improving her record to 12-4-0 this season. The shutout was her seventh of the year.

Arcadia will close out the 2014 regular season at home Saturday, hosting top-ranked Messiah College at 1 p.m. at Easton Field.
