Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s soccer falls to top-ranked Messiah on Senior Day

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 Commonwealth Conference match to visiting Messiah College, which is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the current National Soccer Coaches Association of America Coachers' Poll, Saturday at Easton Field. It was the final match of the regular season for both teams.

The Falcons got the only goal they would need just 2:40 into the match as junior forward Holly Burgard found some open space at the top of the box after receiving a centering pass from fellow junior forward Nikki Elsaessar and placed it past Arcadia senior keeper Veronica Willig.

The game remained 1-0 for Messiah (18-0-1, 7-0-1 CC) until the 60th minute when junior forward Kyele Bridel scored the first of three second half goals for the Falcons. Erin Sollenberger and Lydia Eichorn later found the back of the net in the 81st and 86th minutes, respectively.

Junior keeper Audra Larson stopped both of the shots on goal she faced in the game to pick up the win in net for Messiah. Willig had six stops in taking the loss for Arcadia (14-5-0, 5-3-0 CC).

The Knights honored seniors Nina Barbieri, Kim Canfield, Alex Stoner and Willig in a Senior Day ceremony prior to the start of the match.

Arcadia will be back in action when it hosts a Commonwealth Conference Championship Tournament first round match against Albright College Monday at Easton Field. The official start time will be announced Sunday. The Knights are seeded fourth in the tournament, while the Lions secured the No. 5 seed following Widener University's 2-0 lost at Lycoming College.
