Crenny Registers Double-Double in Women’s Basketball’s Season Opener at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Junior forward Addy Crenny registered a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 17 rebounds Saturday afternoon, as the Arcadia University women's basketball team fell by a 72-66 decision to host DeSales University in the season-opening Morgan Stanley (Easton Office)/Holiday Inn Tip-Off Tournament.

The visiting Knights (0-1) will wrap up tourney play Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., in the consolation round against either Stevens Institute of Technology or Salisbury University. DeSales (1-0) will compete in the championship round at 4 p.m.

Three Arcadia players scored in double figures, including a 15-point effort from senior Megan Fox (6-for-8 FG, 3-for-3 3FG) and a 12-point, five-assist showing from junior Samantha Caligiuri.

Leandra Sterner led all players with 22 points and five steals for the host Bulldogs, who took advantage of a 30-11 edge in points off turnovers. Megan Baird chipped in with 11 points off the bench for DeSales.

The hosts led Arcadia for much of the contest, as DeSales used a 10-1 run to push its lead to 21-6 nine-plus minutes into the opening half. Baird's three with 4:41 remaining in the frame gave the Bulldogs their largest lead of the afternoon (34-14), before a 14-2 Knights run brought them to within a 36-28 count on Crenny's lay-in with 76 to go.

Five-straight points by Fox and a layup by junior forward Rachel Jacob cut the Arcadia deficit to 47-42 with 10:07 left in the second stanza. DeSales pushed its lead back to 12 points, before threes by Caligiuri and Fox brought the Arcadia to within three points (69-66) with 19 seconds left.

From there, Sterner knocked down a pair of free throws and the Bulldogs held the Knights scoreless on their next possession to secure the result.
