Women’s basketball improves to 6-3 with 91-79 win over Delaware Valley

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team outscored visiting Delaware Valley College 34-13 at the line on its way to a 91-79 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium. The Knights improved to 6-3 on the season, while the Aggies fell to 2-6.
 
Arcadia led for most of the game, but found itself trailing 71-67 after junior guard Kelsey Kilpatrick drained a three to put Delaware Valley up by four with just under seven minutes to go. Junior forward Addy Crenny then knocked down a three to pull the Knights within one on the ensuing possession to start a 9-0 run that put Arcadia ahead for good. She would hit four straight free throws after draining three during that span.
 
The Knights led by as many as eight in the closing minutes, but back-to-back layups from junior guard Eireann Anastasi and senior guard Agatha Drodz cut that lead in half to pull the Aggies within four, 83-79, with just under a minute to go. Senior forward/guard Brenna Coll then fouled Arcadia senior guard Dominique Hassinger with 55.8 seconds on the clock, and was then assessed a technical foul that put her out of the game. Crenny made both technical free throws and Hassinger drained her two free throws that followed to put the game out of reach.
 
Five players scored in double-figures for Arcadia, led by a game-high 24 points from junior guard Maureen Fiocca, who also grabbed six rebounds and recorded three steals. Crenny registered her seventh double-double of the season with 20 points, 11 of which came at the line, and 12 rebounds to go with four assists, while senior forward/guard Megan Fox netted 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the floor while make all four of her three-point attempts. She also grabbed eight rebounds with two assists and two steals.
 
Junior forward Valerie DiMuro scored 15 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the field while also pulling down eight boards. Hassinger was a perfect 12 for 12 at the lint to account for each of her 12 points.
 
Anastasi scored 20 points with four assists, three blocks, three rebounds and three steals to lead DelVal, while Coll added 19 points with six rebounds and four assists. Drodz poured in 18 points while going 6 of 7 from the field and at the line, and handed out a game-high six assists.
 
Second chance scoring favored Arcadia 23-9 in the game, while the Aggies held a 36-26 edge in points in the paint and a 25-11 advantage in points off turnovers. Both teams shot 40 percent from the floor in the contest.
 
The Knights will close out the fall semester hosting a non-conference game against Wesley College Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium. Tip-off  is scheduled for 6 p.m.
