Late Surge Gives Lycoming 82-63 Win over Men’s Basketball Team

Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Host Lycoming College closed the game with an 18-3 run to record an 82-63 Commonwealth Conference victory Saturday over the Arcadia University men's basketball team.
 
The Warriors improved to 11-11 overall and 7-9 in conference play with the win, while the Knights fell to 7-16 overall and 2-14 in conference play with the loss.
 
The lead exchanged hands on several occasions I the first half before Arcadia took a narrow 34-33 lead into the locker room at the half. Lycoming opened the second half with an 11-point run to open a 44-34 lead just over three minutes into the second half and led by 12 before a 7-1 spurt from the Knights cut their deficit to 60-54 with 8:53 remaining in the period.
 
Arcadia pulled back within four after a pair of free throws from junior forward Joe Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) made it a 64-60 contest with six and a half minutes left, but it was all Lycoming from there as the Warriors closed the game with an 18-3 run to secure the victory.
 
Brown finished with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field with three makes from downtown to lead the Knights, while junior guard Torrell Candelaria (Philadelphia, Pa.) netted 15 points.
 
Senior forward Kevin Anthony (Columbus, Ohio) scored 12 points on 8-of-014 shooting from the field and a 5-for-7 performance at the line while pulling down 10 rebounds to lead Lycoming. Junior guard Malcolm Covington (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 15 points with eight assists and seven boards, while senior forward Michael Rudy (Danville, Pa.) added 12 points and seven boards.
 
The Warriors shot 49 percent (33-67) from the field and 75 percent (15-20) at the line, while Arcadia shot 40 percent (22-52) from the field and 72 percent (13-18) from the stripe.
 
Lycoming dominated the game in the paint, outscoring the Knights 60-28. The Warriors also held a 20-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
Arcadia will be back in action Tuesday when it hosts an 8 p.m., Commonwealth Conference contest against Lebanon Valley College at Alumni Gymnasium.
