Men’s Basketball Ends 2013-14 Season With 77-68 Victory over Widener on Senior Day

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior guard Rashon Brock (Buena, N.J.) and Mike Fitzpatrick (Towson, Md.) led the Arcadia University men's basketball team to a 77-68 Commonwealth Conference victory over visiting Widener University Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium on Senior Day.
 
The Knights closed the season with two straight wins that raised their record to 9-16 overall and 4-14 in conference play. The Pride ended the year with an overall record of 13-12, including a 7-11 mark in conference play.
 
Brock scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field to go with seven rebounds and four assists, while Fitzpatrick netted 13 point with two rebounds and two assists. Junior guard Torrell Candelaria (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 12 points with seven boards and four assists, while junior forward Joe Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in with 12 points, six boards and four assists.
 
Junior forward Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, N.J.) posted a double-double for Widener with game-high totals of 18 points and 10 boards while going 6-of-7 from the field and 6-of-9 from the line, while sophomore forward David Nicholson (Odernton, Md.) scored 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field while sinking three from downtown. Junior guard Dillon Fields (Medford, N.J.) added 15 points with eight rebounds.
 
The Knights led most of the way in this one, taking a narrow 34-32 lead into the locker room at the half following a three from Fitzpatrick to end the frame, and used some sharp three-point shooting to open a 47-38 advantage just over three minutes into the second.
 
Widener pulled back within two on a three from Nicholson midway through the period but was unable to draw even as Arcadia opened a nine-point lead, 68-59, with 5:29 to go. It was a five point game with exactly two minutes left before the Knights scored six straight to open a 76-65 lead with just under a minute to go, securing the win.
 
Arcadia outscored Widener 34-28 in the paint and had a 13-2 advantage in points off turnovers. The Knights shot 44 percent (27-61) from the field and 42 percent (10-24) from three, while the Pride shot 43 percent (25-58) from the floor and 28 percent (7-25) from downtown.
