Softball Splits Twin Bill at Wesley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOVER, Del. – The Arcadia University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Wesley College Thursday, taking game-one 6-3 before falling in game-two 8-0 in five innings.
 
The Knights (17-19) never trailed in game-one after senior Jessica Wood (Columbus, N.J.) drove in a pair of runs with a double to right in the top of the first inning. Arcadia plated two more runs the following inning on RBI singles from junior Jessica Shotwell (Winsted, Conn.) and sophomore Sarah Boyadjis (Cedar Knolls, N.J.) to open a 4-1 advantage.
 
Senior Ashley John (Columbus, N.J.) drove in a run with a single to center in the top of the fifth, and sophomore Erin Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa.) capped the scoring with an RBI single up the middle in the seventh. Sophomore Alicia McMahon (Bel Air, Md.) scored on both plays.
 
Freshman Morgan Seymour (Smyrna, Del.) twice pulled the Wolverines back within one, driving in sophomore Steph Caracozza (Melbourne Beach, Fla.) with a single to right in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1 and then pushing across freshman Nina Marcano (Townsend, Del.) with a single to right to make it 4-3 after three.
 
Shotwell was 4-for-4 with a double, and RBI and a run scored, while John finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Wilson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored at the plate while allowing three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in the circle to improve her record to 10-7 for the season.
 
Caracozza was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Seymour was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Freshman Lindsay Siok (Milford, Del.) fell to 8-8 after giving up six runs (five earned) on 14 hits in seven innings.
 
Arcadia's bats went silent in game-two as freshman Lily Engel (Dover, Del.) tossed a three-hit shutout to improve her record to 9-6.
 
Wesley (17-17) scored the only run it would need in the bottom of the first when Caracozza scored on a squeeze play. The Wolverines then scored three runs in the second before adding on four more in the third for the 8-0 final.
 
Caracozza went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore Samantha Mahoski (Schenectady, N.Y.) was 1-for-3 with a double, one run scored and two driven in.
 
The Knights will close out the 2014 regular season Saturday when they travel o Hood College for a 1 p.m. Commonwealth Conference doubleheader.
