Box Score 2 GRANTAM, Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team dropped both ends of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Messiah College Friday afternoon by scores of 4-0 and 1-0, with game-two going extra innings. The Falcons are now 15-5 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while the Knights dropped to 5-13 overall and 2-4 in conference play
Game-one was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when sophomore Becky Notte (Oxford, Pa.) drove in sophomore Courtney Allen (Lancaster, Pa,) with a double to left center to score the only run Messiah would need in the game. Notte then scored on sophomore Katie Tankred's (Palm, Pa.) single up the middle, giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Messiah added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for the 4-0 final.
Arcadia had its chances to score but was unable to get a hit with runners in scoring position. The Knights loaded the bases with one out in the top of the second before senior
Ashley John (Columbus, N.J.) grounded into an inning-ending double play, and sophomore Sarah Boyadjis (Cedar Knolls, N.J.) was stranded at second after doubling to left with one away in the third. Arcadia later left a pair of runners on base in the fourth and sixth frames.
Junior Mallory Rutledge (Quarryville, Pa.) scattered six hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out five to improve her record to 9-3 for the season for the Falcons. Notte went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored, while Tankred went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Sophomore
Erin Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa.) fell to 3-6 for the Knights after giving up four runs on six hits and two walks with just two strikeouts in five innings. Senior
Leanda Helms (Topton, Pa.) went 3-for-3 at the plate, while sophomore
Alicia McMahon (Bel Air, Md.) was 2-for-3 with a double.
The only run of game two came in the bottom of the eight, when Amanda Jones launched a two-out solo shot to left to give Messiah a sweep. It was her only hit of the game. Sophomore Claressa Mees (Stephenson, Va.) went the distance for the Falcons, scattering three hits and three walks over eight innings while fanning nine batters to improve her record to 5-2.
Sophomore
Sarah Gunia (East Brunswick, N.J.) took the loss for Arcadia despite tossing what was her best outing of the season, allowing one run on five hits in 7.2 innings. Her record is now 2-6.
The Knights will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Alvernia University for a 1 p.m. Commonwealth Conference doubleheader.
