ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Sophomore Alexander Colton (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) defeated junior Tyler Schultz (Souderton, Pa.) 7-6 (7-2) in the third set at No. 3 singles to give the Arcadia University men's tennis team a 5-4 Freedom Conference win over Eastern University Tuesday in a match that started on April 2 and had to be halted due to darkness.
 
The team score was tied at 4-4 with No. 3 singles tied at one set apiece after Schultz won the first set 6-4 and Colton took the second 7-6 (8-6), forcing the match to be completed at a later date.
 
The Knights (5-3, 1-1 FC) took two of the three doubles matched to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles competition. Colton and freshman Wesley Wei (Monroe Township, N.J.) were 8-6 winners at No. 1 over senior Dan Fowler (Bethlehem, Pa.) and sophomore Grant Williams (York, Pa.), while senior Marc Ruggia (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and sophomore Vincent Voulo (Kunkletown, Pa.) edged senior Mylon Weaver (Gap, Pa.) and freshman Kyle Berner (Haddon Heights, N.J.) 9-8 at No. 2.
 
The Eagles (5-5, 0-2 FC) won three of the five singles matchups so far to tie the match score at 4-4. Ruggia won a 6-1, 7-5 decision at No. 4 over Berner, while sophomore Darren Stochmal (Millville, N.J.) was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over freshman Mitchell Weaver (Gap, Pa.) at No. 5.
 
Williams was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 1 over Voulo, while Fowler won in three sets at No. 2 against Wei by scores of 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Landon Walter (Mifflinburg, Pa.) pulled out a three-set victory over freshman Charles Poklikuha (West Creek, Pa.) at No. 6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.
 
The Knights will be back in action Wednesday when they host a Freedom Conference match against Stevenson University at Weiss Courts at 3:30 p.m.
