DALLAS, Pa. – The fifth-seeded Arcadia University softball team fell to top-seeded and host Misericordia University 5-1 in the first game of the double-elimination portion of the 2014 ECAC Division III South Championship Tournament Saturday morning. The Knights will next play an elimination at 2 p.m. Saturday against third-seeded Alvernia University, which dropped a 6-1 Second Round game to second-seeded McDaniel College.

The Cougars (25-15) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on sophomore Megan Gowe's (Hackensack, N.J.) RBI single up the middle and scored the eventual game-winning run the following inning on classmate Melissa Parker's (Berlin, N.J.) RBI single up the middle.

Junior Sam Hare (Milton, Pa.) and sophomore Andi Veneziale (Burlington, N.J.) launched back-to-back homers in the bottom of the fifth over the left field fence in the sixth to extend Misericordia's lead to 5-0. Hare's homer came with Seiler on first following her lead-off single to shortstop.

Arcadia (21-22) tried to rally in the top of the seventh, but managed just a single run when senior Jessica Wood (Columbus, N.J.) scored on an error in right.

Freshman Bailee Schies (Richland, Pa.) picked up the win after allowing just two hits in 6.1 innings, improving her record to 14-6. She pitched the first six innings and then reentered the game with two outs and runners on first and second in the seventh.

Sophomore Erin Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa.) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in four innings of work. She is now 13-9 for the season.
