Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

McKim’s school and MAC record setting five goals lead men’s soccer to 7-3 win over King’s

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Freshman forward Bradley McKim scored his first five goals, four of which came in the first half, to lead the Arcadia University men's soccer team to a 7-3 non-conference win over King's (Pa.) Saturday at Easton Field.

McKim's five goals set a new Arcadia school record for goals in a game, besting the previous mark of four goals scored by Ben Swan in an 8-1 win at Marywood back on September 22, 2001. He also tied the Middle Atlantic Conference record for goals in a single game, matching the totals scored by Messiah's Patrick Lenehan against Juniata October 24, 2006 and Lycoming's Jeff Kocher against Webb Institute September 3, 2003.

The 10 points totaled by McKim in the game are also a school record and place him second in MAC history. Kocher also had an assist in his five-goal performance against Webb Institute for a conference-record 11 points.

The win snapped a two-game slide for Arcadia, which is now 4-2-1 this season. The defending Freedom Conference champions Monarch's fell to 5-3-0 with the loss.

McKim scored three times in the opening 14 minutes of the game to put the Knights ahead for good. He scored his first goal of the season just 4:19 into the match after breaking through the King's defense with a tremendous solo effort, and added his second goal 4:05 later as he one-timed a cross from junior forward Matt Ross into the back of the net. He then headed in a cross from senior back Joseph Bertucci 13:57 into the match to complete the natural hat trick.

The Monarch's got on the board shortly after when senior midfielder Niall Croke headed the ball in off a free kick 22:27 into the game, but McKim answered a mere 18 seconds later as he ripped a pass from Ross just inside the right post from the right side of the box, once again giving Arcadia a three-goal advantage. Freshman forward/midfielder Georges Fiori capped the first half scoring with the first goal of his collegiate career, giving the Knights a commanding 5-1 lead at the half.

McKim added his fifth and final goal of the day by heading in a corner kick from Bertucci in the 51st-minute, and Ross found the back of the net just over two minutes later to put Arcadia ahead 7-2.

Senior midfielder Korbin Keene and junior midfielder Chris Nygren found the back of the net in the second half for the Monarchs. Nygren scored on a free kick 4:26 into the period, while Keene capped the scoring in the game with a shot from the top of the box in the final minute.

McKim nearly scored what would have been a MAC record sixth goal with 21:27 to go, but was stopped by a spectacular diving save by King's sophomore keeper Tyler Wilson. It was one of three saves for Wilson in the match, who is now 5-3-0 this season.

Junior keeper Seth Shoap recorded five saves while allowing two goals in 65:58 to earn the decision in net for the Knights, improving his record to 4-2-1. Junior keeper Aaron Bell had two stops and allowed one goal in the final 24:02.

Shots were even in the match at 18 apiece. Arcadia had an 8-5 advantage on corner kicks.

The Knights will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference match.
