Big second half leads Women’s basketball in comeback win over Lycoming, 69-60

GLENSIDE, Pa.- The Arcadia University women's basketball team scored 41 of its 69 points in the second half to defeat Commonwealth Conference rival Lycoming College 69-60 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium. The Knights improved to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play with the win, while the Warriors fell to 9-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play with the loss.

The scored was tied at seven early before Lycoming went on a 15-0 run to open up a 22-7 lead with 10:03 left in the first half and the Warriors eventually led 36-28 going into the half. Arcadia trailed by just eight despite shooting only 29 percent (10-35) from the field, while allowing Lycoming to score on 56 percent (14-25) of its first half attempts. 

Junior guard/forward Chelsea Henderson converted a layup to put the Warriors ahead by a game-high 15 points, 50-35 8:28 into the second half. The rest of the game would be all Arcadia, as the Knights went on a 34-10 run to finish the game and give Arcadia its second-ever win against Lycoming in program history.

The Knights first win over the Warriors came on January 15, 2011 at Alumni Gymnasium by a score of 74-62. the two teams first met when Arcadia joined the Commonwealth Conference for the 2008-09 season. 

The Knights were led by junior guard Maureen Fiocca's game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Addy Crenny recorded her conference-leading 10th double-double of the season after scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds to go with seven steals. Junior forward Valerie DiMuro added 16 points and eight rebounds.  

The Warriors were led by junior guard Olivia Manges' 16 points. Senior forward Ali Derr added 11 points, while freshman forward Shelby Mueller contributed nine points and 11 rebounds. Henderson added 10 points off the bench.

The Knights had a 20-12 advantage on points scored off turnovers, and scored 14 second chance points compared to Lycoming's two.

Arcadia returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Reading to take on Albright College for a 6 p.m. Commonwealth Conference tip-off.
