Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Slow start costs women’s basketball team in 69-52 loss at Albright

READING, Pa. – Host Albright College outscored the Arcadia University women's basketball team 19-5 over the opening 7:20 of the game and never looked back as the Lions went on to defeat the Knights 69-52 Wednesday in a Commonwealth Conference contest.

Arcadia shot just 26 percent (19-74) from the field and 19 percent (3-16) from three as its record fell to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Albright improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play after shooting 51 percent (30-59) from the floor.

Despite the slow start and poor shooting performance, the Knights were down just seven at the half, 34-27, and were within six after a pair of free throws from junior forward Addy Crenny made it 37-31 three minutes into the second half. Arcadia was down nine after freshman guard Natalie Toner's free throw made it 50-41 midway through the frame, but the Lions followed with a 12-4 run to open a 62-45 lead with 4:40 remaining to put the game away.

Junior center Kelecia Harris, the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, registered a double-double with game-high totals of 18 points and 17 rebounds to lead Albright to the win. She was 8 of 11 from the field and 2 for 4 at the line. Senior guard Jessica Venturelli added 13 points with five assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Sophomore guard Shannon Thomas and freshman guard Jane Joyce had eight points each.

Crenny scored 13 points while pulling down 13 rebounds for her conference-leading 11th double-double of the season for the Knights, while junior forward Valerie DiMuro netted 11 points with five boards. Junior guard Dominique Hassinger and Toner chipped in with nine points each.

Arcadia will look to bounce back Saturday when it travels to Messiah College for a 3 p.m. Commonwealth Conference matchup.
