GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team dropped a 5-1 MAC Commonwealth decision to visiting Messiah College Saturday at Easton Field. The Falcons, who entered the match ranked 17th in the latest NFHCA Coaches' Poll, improved to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play with their sixth consecutive win, while the Knights dropped to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Messiah scored twice in the opening seven minutes as Taylor Holt scored on a tip 5:34 into the match and was followed by Carissa Gehman's blast from the top of the circle just over a minute later to put Messiah ahead 2-0.
That goal proved to be the difference-maker as senior
Tess Brzezynski scored off a corner after time expired in the second half. Sophomore
Liz Stierle inserted the ball to Brzezynski, who lifted the ball over the top of the Falcons' defense and just under the crossbar for her sixth goal of the season.
Holt accounted for two of Messiah's five goals in the game. Shelby Landes stopped one of the two shots on goal she registered the win in goal, improving her record to 8-4 for the season.
Junior
Brittany Hodson took the loss for the Knights after recording six saves in the first half, while senior
Mia De Plato totaled a match-high eight stops in the second. Freshman
Isley Smith played in the final 3:29 of the match, but did not see a shot on goal.
Arcadia will next travel to Neumann University Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
