GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team recorded its sixth win in seven tries after posting a 3-0 non-conference victory over visiting Gwynedd Mercy University Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium. The Knights evened their record at 9-9 for the season, while the Griffins fell to 8-14.
Arcadia was slow coming out of the gate before winning eight straight points with freshman
Kayla Resh serving as part of an 11-3 run to close out the first set with a 25-17 win. Junior
Alexia Bell served the Knights to a 7-0 lead in the second set before going on to a 25-13 win, which was capped off by an ace from senior
Kathryn Ahern.
Arcadia jumped out to another big lead early in the third and final set, going up 6-1 and then later using a five point surge to go up 18-9. Brianna Greer ended the set with a service error to give the Knights a 25-15 win in the final set to complete the sweep.
Freshman
Elizabeth Joseph hit .533 with a match-high nine kills and one error on 15 attempts to go with a match-high six blocks to lead Arcadia, while senior
Christina Karnavas added seven kills with four digs. Freshman
Sam Dulak added five kills with seven digs, while Ahern registered a match-high eight digs.
Lauren Tressel had six kills and seven digs to lead the Griffins, while Greer hit .300 with four kills and one error on 10 attempts. Samantha Schaerer also totaled a match-high eight digs.
The Knights will return to action Tuesday when they travel to Messiah College for a 7 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match.
