GLENSIDE, Pa. – Sophomore
Tara Smith scored a pair of goals, marking the first multi-goal game of her collegiate career, to lead the Arcadia University women's soccer team to a 3-1 MAC Commonwealth victory over visiting Widener University Sunday afternoon at Easton Field.
Today was Senior Day for the Knights, who improved to 11-5-0 overall and 4-2-0 in MAC Commonwealth play and remained tied for third in the league standings. Arcadia honored seniors
Alyssa Ferraro,
Caitlin Liscinski,
Jenna Mirabelli,
Bailey Novak and
Melia Ochsner at halftime of the match.
Smith scored the only goal of the first half exactly eight minutes into the contest. She took a centering pass from junior
Jackie Glanfield that came from the far right of the box and depositing it in the left side of the net for her second goal of the season.
The score remained 1-0 until the 80th-minute, when the Knights scored twice in the span of 1:07 on emergency keeper Kelliann Burns, who started in the field before having to relieve the injured Olivia Pfautz.
Sophomore
Kayla Haberbosch scored what proved to be the game-winner with 10:17 to go, hooking the ball inside the left post for her fifth goal of the season. Classmate
Jess Kelly started the play by feeding the ball from in front of the Arcadia bench to freshman
Mia Bertolami, who headed the ball to Haberbocsh at the top of the box. Smith then scored her second goal of the game, third of the year, when her shot from some 25 yards out just cleared the crossbar.
The Pride (5-9-1, 1-5-0 MACC) finally got on the board when Brielle Errico fired a shot from just outside the box over the outstretched reach of freshman keeper Evenlyn Feigeles with 1:23 left in the match.
Feigeles totaled five saves as her record improved to 11-5-0 for the season. Pfautz totaled eight saves before having to leave the game with 13:49 to go, while Burned had one stop.
