GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season Saturday night with a 63-60 loss to York College (Pa.). Senior
Maureen Fiocca led all players with a double-double on 22 points and 10 assists.
Fiocca opened the scoring with a three-pointer just over two minutes in before lifting the Knights to a 6-1 lead half way through the first quarter with another triple. A 6-0 run to end the opening frame gave the Knights a 17-10 lead after 10 minutes of play.
The Spartans got within four with 6:54 left in the half before the Scarlet and Grey pieced together a 10-0 run over a span of 2:07, capped by a pair of
Valerie DiMuro free throws, to open its largest lead of the game at 13 for a 32-19 lead. York finished the half on an 11-0 run to send the game to a 32-31 halftime in favor of the hosts.
Arcadia never trailed in the first half as they shot 11 for 29 from the field. Fiocca led the way with 15 points and four boards in opening 20 minutes. Senior
Addy Crenny drop eight points with four boards, a block and a pair of steals. Rookie
Olivia Roseman handed out five assists off the bench.
The teams exchanged one point leads to opening minutes of the second half, however York came away with a 46-42 advantage heading into the final quarter.
York opened its biggest lead at six points to start the fourth quarter, but the Knights battles back to knot the game at 56 with 2:13 left on the clock following a Fiocca three. The squads would be tied again at 58 with 58 seconds remaining, however York ended the game on a 5-2 run for the win.
The senior class led by example as Fiocca deposited a game-high 22 points along with a game-best 10 rebounds, she also handed out a pair of assists and registered three steals. Crenny added 16 points with nine boards, three blocks and three steals. DiMuro contributed 10 points and seven rebounds with one block. Freshman
Camille Menns pulled down seven rebounds off the pine, while
Susan Bossler's six points led all Knights' rookies.
The Knights (0-1) return to the hardwood on Tuesday when they travel up 309 to take on Gwynedd Mercy.
