GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team fell in the play-in game of the MAC Commonwealth Championship Monday night in double overtime 3-2.
Brian Martinez and
Danny Herrera each scored for the Knights.
Unlike the last meeting, it took time for the scoring to open. Widener's Tori Remondelli scored the game's first goal in the 43rd minute off a corner kick from John Colbert.
Martinez answered in the 63rd minute on a beautifully placed free kick from about 25 yards out. It took about 10 minutes for the Pride to retake the lead as Kevin McKenna scored on bang-bang play from Remondelli and Tommy O'Keefe.
Herrera scored the equalizer in the 79th minute when he headed in a free kick from
Derrick Brewer.
Widener's McKenna scored the game-winner with 3:40 remaining in the second overtime period on a cross from the right side by Ross Staudt.
Chris Watson made six save for the Knights in the loss; his counterpart, David Sousa, picked up with win with six saves.
With an 11-6-3 record, the Knights now look to the ECAC South Region Championship which takes place on Monday.
