COWINGS MILL, Md. -
Jackie Glanfield propelled the Arcadia University women's soccer team to the MAC Commonwealth Championship with a goal in the 100th minute on a feed from
Karis Poore. The goal gave Arcadia a 1-0 win over defending MAC Commonwealth champions Stevenson.
A tightly contested first half saw the Scarlet and Grey hold a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal as Glanfield and sophomores
Jess Kelly and
Kayla Haberbosch each fired a shot on target. Each team put a shot off the crossbar in the early portions of the first half, to keep the offensive pressure on. Rookie keeper
Evelyn Feigeles denied two shots on target from the Mustangs.
The second half was a battle of possession that saw Arcadia fire five shots, four of which went on target. Arcadia was outshot 13-9 in regulation, however held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The Knights controlled the extra session firing four total shots; they only needed one on goal to claim the victory. Haberbosch broke free into the middle of the field before she fed
Karis Poore streaking down the right sideline. Poore sent a perfectly placed ball across the box where Glanfield was for the finish.
This marked the fifth overtime contest in seven meetings between the schools. The Knights (14-5) move on to the MAC Commonwealth Championship Game at Messiah on Saturday at 6 p.m.
