Women's Soccer Falls at Messiah in MAC Commonwealth Championship Game

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to top-ranked and top-seeded Messiah in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Game Saturday night.

The early portion of the first half saw each team put on pressure. Freshman defender Stephanie Maggio put the first shot on goal for Arcadia in the eighth minute following a pair of corner kicks, however it would be Messiah that scored the game's only goal as Nikki Elsaesser scored in the 18th minute.

The Falcons outshot the Knights 12-2 in the opening stanza, including a 5-1 advantage in shots on target. Evelyn Feigeles made four saves in the half for the Knights.

Arcadia came out with pressure early in the second half. Mia Bertolami fired the half's first shot on goal 1:46 into the frame. The defense held the Falcons without a shot for the first 17 minutes of the half; Feigeles was there for the save. Jess Kelly had chance with just over 20 minutes left in the half, but the Messiah Keeper Audra Larson was able to knock it away just as the ball hit Kelly's head.

Feigeles made six total saves in the contest, while Larsson made three in the win.

The Knights (14-6) await ECAC Division III South Regional selections to take place on Monday. The Knights are two-time defending champions in the ECAC South Tournament.
