MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Arcadia University softball team scored a combined 31 runs as it handily defeated Sarah Lawrence College and SUNY Morrisville by respective scores of 29-0 and 12-0 Wednesday at the Snowbird Softball Classic. The Knights won both games in five innings as they evened their record at 3-3 for the season.
Sophomores
Katherine Ghyzel and
Laura Christine combined to no-hit Sarah Lawrence (0-5) in Arcadia's first game of the day. Gyhzel struck out two batters over the first three innings to earn the decision, picking up her first win of the season, while going 1 for 5 at the plate with a double, four RBI and two runs scored. Christine also struck out two batters over the final two innings in relief while going 2 for 5 at the plate with a double, four RBI and a pair of runs scored.
The Knights scored five times in the first inning before exploding for 11 runs in the second and 10 runs in the third. Arcadia scored three more times in the fourth to cap the scoring in the game.
Junior
Nicki Larro went 5 for 6 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored, while classmate
Jessica Shotwell was 4 for 5 with five runs scored and two driven in from the leadoff spot. Junior
Alicia McMahon was 3 of 6 at the plate with a double, four RBI and four runs scored, and fellow junior
Natalie O'Reilly was 3 for 5 with three doubles, three runs scored and two driven in.
Arcadia scored seven times in the bottom of the first against Morrisville (2-4), which was more than enough run support for junior
Erin Wilson as she struck out seven batters while tossing a three-hit shutout. She was also 2 for 3 at the plate with and RBI and a run scored.
Shotwell was responsible for seven of the Knights' 12 runs in the game as she went 4 for 4 with a triple, four RBI and three runs scored, while Ghyzel went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Junior
Sara Boyadjis was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while classmate
Sarah Gunia was 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored.
Arcadia will close out its southern trip Thursday with games against Sarah Lawrence and Rutgers-Newark at the Snowbird Softball Classic.
