READING, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team fell behind 7-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game and was unable to fully recover as it dropped a 12-10 Commonwealth Conference decision at Alvernia University Wednesday.
The Knights (7-2, 0-1 CC) got back in the game with a five-goal run that started with a goal from freshman
Nicole Hutson midway through the first half and was capped by junior
Adeline Bellesheim's first goal of the game with 5:49 left in the opening frame. Senior Jacquelyn Strange capped off the first half scoring for the Crusaders (4-2, 1-0 CC) a minute later, putting Alvernia up 8-5 at the half.
Arcadia pulled to within one three times in the second half, but was unable to draw even or take the lead. Hutson made it an 11-10 game with nine minutes to go, but that was as close as the Knights would get the rest of the way as Strange capped the scoring with her fifth goal of the game.
Senior Candace Knight and sophomore Angel Adams added three goals each for Alvernia, while sophomore Brooke Campione chipped in with one goal as part of the game's opening seven-goal Crusader run. Junior Colleen Reilly totaled 15 saves in net as she improved her record to 4-2 on the season.
Arcadia had balanced scoring in the game, getting two goals senior
Haylee Molloy, Bellesheim, Misner and Hutson. Misner also had game-high totals of six draw controls and five ground balls. Junior
Jordyn Dunacusky had 11 saves in taking the loss in goal, dropping her record to 6-2.
The Knights will look to bounce back Saturday when they travel to Lycoming for a 1 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest.
