Arcadia Softball Takes Down Cairn in Doubleheader, Â 9-0 and 11-1

Glenside, Pa – The Arcadia University softball team won both in a non-conference doubleheader today against Cairn University with the scores of 9-0 and 11-1. The Knights are now 7-9 for the season after snapping a six-game losing streak, while the Highlanders fell to 0-14.

Arcadia jumped out to a quick lead in game one, scoring four runs in the first inning. The Knights scored a pair of runs off a single to right off the bat of junior
Nicki Larro, who then scored from second on another single to right off the bat of freshman
Amanda Hess. The bats stayed hot at the plate for Arcadia as freshman
Elissa Zuczek singled to center field to bring Hess around to score and make it 4-0.

The Knights racked up 16 hits over six innings in the mercy-rule win. Hess finished the game 3 for 4 with two doubles, three RBI and scored two runs, and senior
Jessica Shotwell was also 3 for 4 with a double as well as three runs scored. Larro tallied three hits, three runs scored and two RBI, while junior
Sarah Gunia had a pair of singles to go with her two runs driven in.

Junior
Erin Wilson started in the circle for Arcadia, striking out five batters in the first three innings. Sophomore
Laura Christine took over for the last three innings for the Knights, striking out three Highlanders as she evened her record at 2-2.

Game two of the doubleheader was no different with Arcadia getting 16 hits and scoring 11 runs in a game that ended after the top of the fifth. The flood gates opened for Arcadia in the bottom of the fourth, which saw the Knights score seven runs for the 11-1 final.

Arcadia strung together seven straight hits to start the inning, which included a two-RBI double for junior
Sara Boyadjis to bring Shotwell and Gunia around to score in between RBI doubles for Gunia and Larro. Freshman
Tori Zaccaria late came up with a triple to score sophomore
Megan Roynan and capped the scoring when she came home on freshman
Kaylee Zarick's single to left.

Christine was back in the circle for the start of game two and picked up the win after allowing one unearned run on four hits with two Ks. Roynan came in to finish the job, holding the Highlanders to one hit in two innings.

Shotwell and Zarick were both a perfect 3 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored and one driven in the second game of the day. Gunia went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored, while Boyadjis was 1 for 2 with a double, three RBI and a run scored.Â
