Softball Drops a Pair at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests at Haverford College Thursday, falling 9-0 in five innings in game-one and 5-0 in game-two. The Fords improved to 19-6 with the two wins, while the Knights fell to 11-7 with the two losses.

Haverford scored twice in the bottom of the first in game-one on senior Jill Schnall's single to right, and that was all the offense the Fords would need as junior Sara Tauriello fanned six batters while throwing a two-hit shutout in the circle to improve her record to 8-1.

The score was still 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, where Haverford's offense erupted for seven runs to put the mercy rule in play.

Arcadia threatened to put a big number on the board early after loading the bases with one out in the top of the first, but Tauriello worked her way out of the jam by striking out sophomores Alicia McMahon and Erin Wilson to get out of the inning.

Things didn't get much better for the Knights in game-two as junior Emily Winesett and sophomore Kendall Chambers combined on a three-hit shutout for Haverford. Winesett improved to 9-2 after allowing two hits over the first five innings of the game.

The Fords jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first in game-two, stringing together three straight run-scoring hits before a sac fly capped the scoring in the frame, and tacked on one more run in the sixth for the 5-0 final.

Wilson took the loss for Arcadia in game-one after allowing nine runs (three earned) on nine hits and a pair of walks, while sophomore Laura Christine took the loss in game-two after giving up five runs on nine hits.

The Knights will look to get back on track Saturday when they head to Lebanon Valley College for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader.
