Men’s Lacrosse Posts 7-5 Victory at Hood, Riley Ties Single-Season Scoring Record

FREDERICK, Md. – The Arcadia University men's lacrosse team outscored host Hood College 3-1 in the third quarter to pull out a 7-5 Commonwealth Conference victory Saturday, improving its record to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The Blazers fell to 6-9 for the season and 2-5 in conference games.

Freshman Danny Riley scored the only goal of the first quarter to give the Knights a 1-0 lead before the two teams traded a series of two-goal runs in the second. Riley and sophomore Joe Stanton scored back-to-back goals in a span of just 45 seconds to put Arcadia ahead 3-2, but sophomore Patrick O'Brien and freshman Rudy Garcia answered for Hood to give the Blazers a 4-3 lead with 2:28 to go in the opening half.

That lead didn't last long though, as freshman Billy Van Dyke won the ensuing faceoff that allowed freshman Ryan Green to put home first goal of the game just eight seconds later to tie the game at 4-4 heading into halftime.

Riley scored 2:13 into the third quarter to put Arcadia out in front for good, and Stanton scored what proved to be the game-winner just nine seconds later off another Van Dyke faceoff win. Freshman Malik Brown scored to bring the Blazers back within one less than a minute later before freshman Matt Mignogna scored his 10th goal of the season with 10:10 remaining in the third for the 7-5 final.

Riley's three goals raised his point total to 42 for the season, which ties the program record for most points in a season with two regular season games remaining. Chris Jacovino totaled 42 points on a program-record 32 goals and 10 assists in 2013, the program's first varsity season. Riley now has 28 goals and a program-record 14 assists so far in 2015.

Stanton finished with two goals and one assist, while Green had one goal and one assist. Freshman A.J. Beck totaled 13 saves in goal to improve his record to 4-6 on the year.

The Knights will be back in action Tuesday when they host a 7 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest against Widener University at Easton Field.
