GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-4 Commonwealth Conference to visiting Widener University Tuesday at Easton Field, which was the Knights final home game of the 2015 season. The Pride improved to 6-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play with the win, while the Knights fell to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
It was a closely contested game the entire way, but Widener took control on the scoreboard by scoring all four second quarter goals to take a 7-3 lead at the half. Marc LaVine opened the scoring in the period just two and a half minutes in, and Clint Sanders followed with a man-up goal a minute and a half later. Tim Taylor made it a three-goal game with his second of the contest with 2:56 left in the period, while Anthony Cipriano closed the first half scoring with just under a minute to go in the frame.
The Knights trailed 3-1 with just over five minutes to go in the first quarter before scoring twice in the final three and a half minutes to pull even at the end of the period. Sophomore
Joe Stanton scored his second goal of the game with 3:39 left in the opening frame, and freshman
Danny Riley followed with 56 second left to tie the game at 3-3.
Riley's goal was his team-leading 29th of the season, and raised his point total to 43 for the year, setting a new program record for points in a single season. The previous mark of 42 points was set by
Chris Jacovino in the program's inaugural season in 2013.
The Knights has plenty of quality scoring opportunities in the second half, but managed to find the back of the net just once on junior
Tyler Hiller's first career goal with 3:45 left in the third quarter. Widener goalie Tyler McClary recorded eight of his 11 saves in the second half to secure the win for the Pride.
Arcadia will close out the 2015 season Saturday with a Commonwealth Conference matchup and Messiah College.
