PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team exploded for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to break a 5-5 deadlock and record a 10-5 non-conference victory over visiting Immaculata University Monday at Erny Field.
The Knights (12-5) trailed by one heading into the bottom of the sixth, which saw junior
George Pagan lead off the frame with a double to left before eventually scoring on an error on a failed pickoff attempt of senior
Andonis Yiantsos at first, trying the game at 5-5.
Runners were on first and third in the bottom of the seventh after senior
Justin Simpson's lead off triple and sophomore
Justin Chasmar's walk and both came around to score on sophomore
Austin Eppenstein's double to the gap in left center field to put Arcadia in the lead for good. He then crossed the plate on another double to left for Pagan, who in turn scored on Yiantsos' double down the right field line. Junior
Nick Todero capped the scoring in the inning when he drove in Yiantsos and senior
Dan Shiramizu with a single up the middle for the 10-5 final.
Simpson picked up his first decision of the season after going to the mound with two aboard in the top of the seventh. He got junior Rick DiDomenico to ground into a double play before getting junior John Wallace to ground out to short to end the threat. Simpson then struck out the side in the eighth and freshman
Ryan Ulrich tossed a scoreless ninth to close out the win.
Simson was 3 for 5 on the day at the plate with one double, one triple and two runs scored, while Pagan finished the day 3 for 5 with three doubles, two runs scored and another driven in. Todero went 3 for 4 with one RBI and a run scored, while Yiantsos was 2 for 3 with a double, and RBI and a run scored.
Freshman Eddie Decker took the loss on the hill for the Mighty Macs (8-8) after getting touched up for six runs on seven hits over two and one-third innings, dropping his record to 2-1 for the year. Sophomore Dom Ficca had the lone multi-hit game for Immaculata, going 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored.
Arcadia will return to action Wednesday when it travels to Muhlenberg College for a non-conference contest.
