GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader against visiting Wesley College Monday, taking game-one 2-1 before dropping a 13-10 slugfest in game-two in the first-ever night game played at Blankley Field.
Â
The Knights (9-11) scored twice in the bottom of the first in game one as junior
Alicia McMahon drove in classmate
Nicki Larro with an infield single before advancing to second on a double-steal that saw freshman
Amanda Hess scored from third with what proved to be the game-winning run. Sophomore
Laura Christine made those two runs stand up as she allowed just one unearned run while scattering six hits over seven innings to improve her record to 4-3 this season in the pitcher's circle.
Â
The Wolverines (18-9) got one run back right away when junior Breanna Hartman's double drove in classmate Kayla Fromal with one out in the inning, but that was the only run they could manage in the game. Sophomore Lindsay Siok took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in her six innings of work, dropping her record to 8-7.
Â
Arcadia appeared to be on its way to a sweep after going up 10-5 through five innings of play, only to see Wesley pull back within three with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the sixth before exploding for six runs in the top of the seventh to record the come-from-behind win. The Wolverines pulled within one when junior Samantha Mahoski crossed the plate on a bases-loaded ground out by sophomore Morgan Seymour and then took the lead when freshman Tiarra Maddox drove in two runs with a single up the middle.
Â
Freshman Destiny Davis improved to 2-0 after allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits and six walks over four innings of relief, while Siok picked up her first save of the season after yielding just one walk in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Steph Caracozza was 4 for 5 with three runs scored and one driven in, while Hartman was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and another driven in. Mahoski went 2 for 4 in the game with one RBI and two runs scored.
Â
Sophomore
Katherine Ghyzel took the loss after giving up eight runs (six earned) on seven hits in one and a third innings of relief, dropping her record to 1-1. Junior
Sarah Gunia was 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and another drive in, while Larro was 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
